Pros & Cons
- A good selection of features
- Multiple ways to communicate
- Several ways to break the ice
- Good control over the amount of information you share
- Most features are only available with a paid subscription
Plans & Pricing
Anyone can sign up for a free, basic membership, but with a subscription package, users unlock premium features like unlimited chats, unlimited Wingman Barney and Flirtcast, and a list of all the users who’ve liked and visited your profile.
There are usually discounts available, typically ranging from 20 to 40%, and all members can get a 1-day free trial. If these are not available, we recommend browsing with your free account and keeping an eye on pop-ups and promotional emails. We did this for half an hour and received two pop-ups offering a 40% discount, while the payment page offered 30%.
The full prices (prior to discounts being applied) are listed below.
Overview
Cupid has been around since 2002, making it one of the oldest online dating services. It boasts a user base of nearly 8 million and the largest user base of any dating site in the UK. With the fun features available on Cupid, dating is as stress-free as can be!
Ease of Use
Registration Process
Registration is quick and simple. You can either input your own info or sign up with Facebook, though for security reasons, signing up with Facebook is not recommended. Once you’ve chosen your username and password, you have the option to answer some questions about yourself and your intended partner to help ensure better matches, but beyond your age, location, and email address, no personal information is required.
Profile Personalization
Once you’ve finished the registration process, you can add or change your profile picture and modify your billing and account settings, as well as fill in your profile information.
Notifications
Personalize the alerts you would like to receive to keep track of profile activity.
Mobile Application
Cupid only offers their mobile application for iOS, and for those with an iPhone, the application is optimal for certain features, especially the Like Gallery, which is a fun way to swipe through profiles.
Special Features
Like Gallery
This Tinder-inspired game allows you to swipe through users to find matches in a quick and easy way. You’ll be greeted with a single image taken from a user’s profile. You can “Heart” the photo and make a connection or disregard it and move onto the next one.
Communication
There are several options to choose from to connect with people on Cupid, including messages, text chat, and likes. Direct messages can be sent to users’ inboxes, but to open the messages you receive, you must be a subscribing member. For a quick way of grabbing their attention, send a Flirtcast (see below) or just “Like” their profile.
Wingman Barney
Probably the most exciting feature on Cupid is Wingman Barney, a master matchmaking bot that can analyse any profile and put together the perfect message to send to a user of your choice. Wingman Barney considers everything in a user’s profile, from appearance to hobbies, to craft unique messages that will hopefully start an interesting conversation! The first three successful matches are free, but for any more, you’ll need a subscription.
Flirtcast
If you’re not too picky and feeling in a flirtatious mood, you can send a Flirtcast. It’s a way to let everyone in your search results know you’re out there, all at once.
At the top of your matches screen, you’ll see a little message with a Refresh option and a “Send Now”. It typically covers a basic question that you can then send to everyone on the page. It’s an icebreaker, and it’s a great way to connect with multiple people at once.
Some of the sample messages include, “I knew I’d find a man I like on this site 😉 So tell me…what do you think constitutes a great date?”
The messages are structured in a way that facilitates a response, beginning by offering a compliment and grabbing their attention and then asking them a question with multiple possible answers. Even if you dismiss these messages as being a little too cringey, you should take inspiration from them when writing your own.
Site Safety
For the safety of their users, Cupid provides some helpful tips for safe dating practices both online and offline. As an additional security measure, Safe Mode is available for male users, allowing you to customize who can see your profile and contact you.
Customer support
With around-the-clock live chat, Cupid offers responsive and accommodating customer support. You can also send the support team more detailed messages to address membership and billing questions, to report sketchy user behaviour, or for help with any of the site’s features.

Final Word
Cupid’s unique and quirky features like the Like Gallery make it an ideal service for casual dating and flirting. Although they offer a basic membership allowing users to match for free, it’s worth investing in a subscription in order to take full advantage of Cupid’s premium features. The standout, of course, is Flirtcast! For people who have trouble getting the ball rolling with potential new dates, this is a truly amazing tool to have at your disposal. You’ll never be at a loss for words again. If you’re looking to get yourself out there, definitely give Cupid a try!
