Dating these days is a fast-paced and casual roller-coaster with apps like Tinder acting as a social lubricant. But, if you are the type who still appreciates a nice, romantic dinner, here are a few aphrodisiac foods that can be just as potent as swiping right with the added benefit of having some time to talk. Some food types are best known for their nutritious values, others are notorious for stimulating the senses since ancient Greek times (the word Aphrodisiac originates with the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite).

Saucy Italian

A nice little Italian place is a pretty safe bet for a date, but I bet you didn’t know that you’re probably getting a little extra help in the bedroom with every savory bite. For best results, try a basil pesto over hot spaghetti. Not only will it keep you light on your feet for later, but the basil is known for getting you in the mood and it tastes great. And don’t feel guilty about a little garlic breath either – in fact, the more, the better since garlic is also a potent aphrodisiac. Just don’t forget the mints!

End the night with a bit of tiramisu and espresso and you’ll get a double dose of arousing aromas with your coffee and cocoa powder topped Italian treat!

A Tiny Fig Can Do A Lot

Figs are a healthy source of potassium and contain dietary fibers. Figs are also an aphrodisiac since the days of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They symbolize sexuality, fertility, and modesty. They are lusciously sweet, silky smooth from the outside, seedy and crunchy from within… the perfect combination to heat things up. Figs are best served with red wine and yogurt or frozen desserts, which make them a nice addition to any first, second and third date.

A Malt Shop Romance

It’s no wonder we think of the ice cream shop as the perfect place to start a steamy romance. You probably knew that chocolate was a potent aphrodisiac, especially for women, but did you know vanilla is too? And vanilla just so happens to be the most popular ice cream flavor and the perfect ingredient in all things sweet and sticky. Whipped cream and cherries are also notable aphrodisiac foods, and along with a banana and chocolate brownies, make the perfect treat for two. It’s definitely the perfect way to ‘end’ a date!

Fine Dining Extraordinaire

Dressing up nice and getting your strut on for a gorgeous fine dining experience is almost its own aphrodisiac, but if you’re in the mood to do the town right, even 5-star restaurants have you covered. A bottle of wine, some oysters, and a light arugula salad are all know for getting you in the mood and satisfying the foodie in you. A beautiful charcuterie platter complete with cheese and fruits is just about the best way to fancy up your night and get you in the mood to stay up late with your date.

Late Night Pizza Snack

It might not seem like the most romantic thing in the world, but did you know pizza is actually the number 1 erotic smell for men? It probably helps that you can get just about every savory aphrodisiac as a topping and come out with something delicious! (Pro tip: try a veggie pizza with olives, garlic (just not too much garlic!), and artichoke. It’s crazy delicious and super stimulating!) Plus there’s something just so relaxing about sharing a slice. It’s sure to get you feeling close and intimate and open to anything!

After all, dating is about having fun and getting to know somebody, and what better way is there to do that than over everybody’s favorite food?
